Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine Participates in High-Level Meeting to Strengthen Veterinary Services in Basrah
The Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah, Dr. Jalal Yassin Mustafa, participated in an expanded meeting held at the headquarters of the Basrah Provincial Council, attended by the Council’s Deputy Chairman, Sheikh Osama Al-Saad, the Head of the Iraqi Veterinarians Syndicate, Dr. Alaa Hussein Al-Hasnawi, and members of his accompanying delegation, as well as a representative of the local government of Basrah.
The meeting focused on a range of strategic issues related to the veterinary health and preventive management of livestock across the province. During the discussions, the Dean emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation among academic institutions, professional organizations, and government authorities to empower veterinary professionals and enhance their field capabilities.
Dr. Mustafa also highlighted the essential role of veterinarians and graduates of the College of Veterinary Medicine in disease prevention and control, particularly in responding to epidemics and infectious diseases, while safeguarding livestock production, food security, and public health.
The meeting resulted in agreement on a number of practical measures aimed at improving the professional and socioeconomic stability of veterinarians. These measures included following up on the procedures for allocating residential plots to eligible veterinarians, establishing dedicated employment contracts, and strengthening direct veterinary supervision of investment and livestock-production projects throughout the province.
The meeting concluded with a commitment from all participants to maintain continued coordination and joint cooperation among the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Basrah Provincial Council, and the Iraqi Veterinarians Syndicate. Such cooperation is expected to contribute to strengthening the veterinary sector and creating a supportive environment for the sustainable development of livestock resources in Basrah.
