University of Basrah Investigates the Preparation of Nanoparticles from Moringa Extract and Their Therapeutic Role in Cardiac Ischemia
A PhD dissertation at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Basrah, investigated the “Preparation of Nanoparticles from the Alcoholic Extract of Moringa Leaves and Their Therapeutic Role in Cardiac Ischemia in Male Rats with Hypothyroidism and Obesity.”
The study, presented by researcher Duha Ibrahim Atiya, aimed to evaluate the therapeutic effects of nanoparticles prepared from Moringa extract in treating hypothyroidism, obesity, and the associated pathological changes.
The dissertation involved inducing hypothyroidism and obesity in rats and investigating their effects on cardiac function. It also evaluated oxidative stress and inflammatory biomarkers, as well as the levels of several hormones, including leptin, ghrelin, insulin, and adiponectin. In addition, histopathological and immunohistochemical examinations of the heart and thyroid gland were performed.
The study concluded that hypothyroidism and obesity have a direct adverse effect on cardiac function, whereas treatment with nanoparticles prepared from Moringa extract improved cardiac and thyroid functions and contributed to the modulation of lipid profiles and hormonal levels in the body.
