Basrah Provincial Council Discusses Strategic Plan with the College of Veterinary Medicine to Revitalize the Marshlands and Develop Livestock Resources
As a follow-up to his previous meeting with the University President and his Administrative Assistant, Mr. Mohammed Falih Al-Battat, a member of the Basrah Provincial Council and Chairman of the Agriculture, Water Resources, and Marshland Revitalization Committee, visited the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah. He was received by the Dean of the College, Dr. Jalal Yaseen Mustafa, to discuss practical ways to strengthen joint cooperation.
During the meeting, both parties agreed to establish a committee comprising specialized professors and researchers to serve as a direct liaison between the College and the Provincial Council. Mr. Al-Battat also expressed his full support for scientific research aimed at advancing the livestock sector.
The discussions focused on identifying modern scientific approaches to revitalizing the Iraqi marshlands, regarded as the “lungs of the country,” with particular emphasis on their conservation and on enhancing the capabilities of water buffalo breeders, given the strategic economic and environmental importance of buffalo farming to Iraq.
Mr. Al-Battat also emphasized the importance of supplying the labor market with qualified graduates. For his part, Dr. Mustafa stated that the visit represented an important practical step toward translating scientific research into real-world applications. He added that it reflected the university’s direct contribution to serving society, particularly through the development of livestock resources, which constitute one of the objectives of sustainable development.
