the Molecular Diagnosis of Parasites Shared Between Cattle and Humans

University of Basrah Investigates the Molecular Diagnosis of Parasites Shared Between Cattle and Humans

A doctoral dissertation at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Basrah, investigated the diagnosis of selected parasites shared between cattle and humans in Basrah Governorate.

The dissertation, submitted by researcher Raghad Shareef Ibrahim, aimed to detect intestinal parasites, identify them at the molecular level, investigate their potential transmission between humans and cattle, and assess their histological and immunological effects.

The study involved the microscopic and molecular examination of 700 samples and investigated the correlation between infections and environmental and seasonal factors. It also included histological and immunological experiments conducted on rats.

The study concluded that parasitic infections were present in both humans and cattle, alongside contamination of water and soil. Genetic similarities between the identified parasites supported the possibility of transmission between humans and cattle.

The dissertation recommended improving water treatment and sanitation, enhancing public health awareness and waste management, and adopting the One Health approach.
